E.L. Ekman Herbarium's pictures
The National Herbarium of Haiti is hosted by the Faculté d'Agronomie et de Médecine Vétérinaire (FAMV) , Université d'État d'Haïti (UEH) in Damien, near Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Herbarium Rooms

Since repairing works done in 2003, the Ekman Herbarium is located in two rooms:
one for preparation and one for conservation.

Preparation Room

In the preparation room, the old cabinets are still used to put newly collected specimens which will be frozen and then integrated in the main herbarium.

The same room from a different view.

The freezer where are put specimens to be rid of pests. Robbers were not able to take it off the Herbarium. On this picture, the iron door was not installed yet.

Documentation is piled on shelves as no bookcase is available.

Conservation Room

Some of the ten new cabinets bought by the New York Botanical Garden. This picture is taken from the same place than the picture on the right done in 2001. The floor has been entirely done again.

The stockroom.

This door and this window permit communication between the two rooms. These were absent in 2002 as show on the pictures on the right.

Herbarium supplies are kept in the stockroom. On the right, the same place in 2001.

The wood collection. It has been fumigated recently and is found outside of the herbarium for the moment. The specimens still need to be listed and organised.

Les armoires d'herbier

The new cabinets have enough space to add new specimens.

One of the old cabinets. Most of them are in very bad shape and no longer dust- or pests-proof.

Once restored (in 2001 and 2002), specimens were wrapped to keep dust and insects away. Now, all specimens have been transfered into the new cabinets.
