Introduction to the databases

This database contains information about all specimens found in Ekman Herbarium taken in a historical sense, i.e. specimens collected by Ekman himself or by contemporaries. Some specimens collected later and intégrés in the herbarium are also included. No unmounted specimens are included. This included a few specimens collected by Ekman (no labels) but mostly dozen of specimens collected about 1980 or received as exchange at this time. The fields available for public consultation represent only the contents of the original label. Only a very few scientific names have been verified. Much remains to do there. Any comments or questions are most welcome. The 6,741 specimens of Ekman Herbarium represent the following groups : Lichens (1 specimen !), Algae, Pteridophytes, Gymnosperms and Angiosperms. The database is made with Microsoft Access 2000. Linking the database with the web page was programmed in Perl language by Michel Martin, Service des Technologies de l'Information, Campus d'Edmundston, Université de Moncton.
