1. NASA Communications (ACT)
-launched in 1993
- used for communicating at a specific site on earth
-used for high speed communications
-allows a moving antenna keep pointing in a specific spot
-in the futur: satellite TV in airplanes
2. (Radio Sirius & XM)
- from their orbits, these 2 satellites, allows hundreds of high quality radio stations, even during long distance travel in North America
3. Video VISAR (Video Image Stabilization & Registration)
Introduced in 2001As a result of a demand from the FBI, after the Atlanta Olympics bomb threat
Method used take photos of the Sun, it will allow a clearer picture even of moving targets, or a shaking photographer...
Should be soon among the video camera options on the market.
4. Television;
Introduced in 2000... created by Hughes Electronics, in 1984
Initial needs: construction of a Mars explorer module
Application: HBO... satellite-small format, very powerful: can sent compressed digital signals
5. Health: DeBakey heart pump:
Intruduced in 1999
Goal: Create a turbo pump which would control the gas flow, under extreme pressure, such as the for astronauts in space.
Application: Create, using the same tecnology, a pump for regulating or pumping blood flow in humans.It already is used in clinics for patients await a heart transplant, or for follow-up after a heart transplant.
6. Rescue & Research: - GSP (Global Positioning System)
Introduced in 1998
Goal: Site ships, soldiers...
Application: No matter where we are on earth, a group of 24 satellites, orbiting at 20 200 km, can identify precisely whatever site on earth.
7. Security: (Tempered foam
Introduced in 1998
Goal: Makemorecomfortableseatsinthespaceshuttles: very absorbant & comfortable
Application: airplane seats: helps to absorb shocks: a 7cm thick of this fabric can absorb the shock of an adult falling from 8 meters..
8. Security: Fire resistant fabric:
Introduced in 1996 - after Apollo 1 disaster
Use: have a fabric that resists fire while being very light
Application: Since 1984, this product is used in airplane seats and space shuttle seats
9. Health: (Excimer Laser Angioplasty System)
Introduced in 1994
Goal: Studytheozonelayer
Application: This laser is now used in by-pass and clogged arteries, and eye cornea correction
